Found

I'm pale. That means finding a foundation that doesn't make me look like a ghost or an oompa loompa... almost impossible.

I like make-up, but i'm not one of those girls who can justify spending £25 on a designer foundation (sob sob). I stick to the high street, mostly Boots and Superdrug, as I live in Cornwall and well we have no other shops!

I've tried Rimmel, Max Factor, even dabbled in Benefit (almost made me bankrupt)! Somehow none of these made my skin as flawless as on the adverts.

Then one day I stumbled upon Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in 51 Light Vanilla! Bingo I had found my ideal coverage.
It even has a slight fruity scent to it. The texture is light and easy to apply without being too runny. It does say that it lasts for 16 hours but I am not sure that is true, I have applied it before a 12 hour shift and it isn't still flawlessly intact after that! So I guess it depends what you are doing in those 16 hours!

I had previously tried the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation and found that to be too thick and nowhere near as pleasant to apply. It looked almost dull and caked on my pale skin (not a good look). however the serum is just the right consistency and applies really evenly to my skin, covering all of the redness and imperfections on my cheeks and around my nose.

One flaw is that it doesn't contain SPF which I think would be a bonus!

Have you tried Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum?
What did you think?

Afterglow

I am currently loving... Nivea Refreshingly Soft Moisturising Cream.

I love Nivea products as you always know that you are getting a good product in my opinion and the smell reminds me of my mum, a nice, clean,  fresh, comforting smell.

Nivea teamed up with designer Giles Deacon for fashion week in September (I know I know where have I been) to produce the loveliest little pot of light moisturising cream.
It is such a lovely light formula and contains Vitamin E and Jojoba Oil, it soaks into the skin really quickly too, which is a bonus because I hate creams that linger on the skin and leave you feeling greasy.

The pot is 200ml and costs around about the £4.00 mark.

Are you a Nivea fan?

La La La

I can never find a shampoo that is good for my fine hair. I have tried the ones that they suggest at the hairdressers (which cost an arm and a leg) along with all the popular brands such as Herbal Essences, Dove, Pantene, etc... but they always either leave my hair dry and itchy or greasy and limp!

However, a few months ago I started using TRESemme Platinum Strength. Now at first I wasn't sure as the shampoo itself was quite thick, which I thought would result in my hair being left limp and greasy. However I was pleasantly surprised and have been using it for a few months now. It smells pleasant enough not the best scented shampoo I have ever used, but it leaves my hair feeling amazing!

I would definitely recommend TRESemme to anyone who has the same issues with finding the right shampoo as I have.

Take a Moment

Hello everyone! I haven't been around in a while due to work, assignment and generally just being a busy bee!

My blog posts normally revolve around beauty products but I wanted to do a little something different today.

I have a really bad cold (cue the violins) so have spent the day cuddled up inside watching daytime television. Whilst watching 'This Morning' on ITV they mentioned their 'Take a Moment' appeal and it made me think of all of the people less fortunate than myself.

I have made a list of all of the little ways that you can make a big difference to peoples lives:

  • Clear out your wardrobe- Now I am guilty of buying hundreds of items of clothes (without trying them on I might add) and NEVER wearing them! Put anything you don't want in a bin bag and take them to your nearest charity shop! Or you could do the opposite and buy something from http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop (They sell vintage darling!)
  • Food banks - next time you are in your local supermarket, pick up an extra tin of soup, some sugar or a box of cornflakes and donate it to the food bank on the way out. You can find more information about food banks at http://www.trusselltrust.org/foodbank-projects
  • Take an elderly neighbours dog for a walk
  • Donate your old magazines to the doctors or hospital (Then they can finally throw that 1994 copy of Take a Break away!).
There is a whole list of excellent ideas on the 'This Morning' website, and even better if you register your act of kindness on there, the government automatically will donate £5 to the appeal! Everyone is a winner!

Smooth Lines

Summer is harsh on my skin and a good moisturiser is a must. I have tried many over the years from classics such as Dove and Nivea to popular ones like Soap and Glory, however none of them really improve my skins appearance and often leave that horrible sticky feeling on my skin... gross!

Now i'm not a huge fan of body oil products usually, due to them also leaving a sticky feeling on my skin. However when on a recent little shopping trip to Boots, decided to pick this Garnier Ultimate Beauty Oil up as part of the 3 for 2 offer.

I was a little apprehensive at first as I thought it would be just the same as all of the other body oil products I have tried in the past. However I was pleasantly surprised; it soaks straight into the skin and smells amazing! I also claims to be a skin perfecter; however I am dubious about these qualities!  However at  only £7.99 from Boots I think I will be repurchasing when I run out!

Have you tried Garnier Ultimate Beauty Oil?

Cooler Than Me

I Don't know about you, but I for one have been enjoying the latest little heatwave we have been having. Which unfortunately looks like it has come to a sudden end judging by today's weather!

However as a typical Brit, at the first sight of sun I was out there basking in it fully aware of the damage it can do to my skin and stupidly managed to get sunburn!

I normally use some kind of Aloe Vera based product to cool my fiery skin down when I have the dreaded sunburn, even though I hate the smell! However this time I decided to spritz some Eau Thermale Avene- Thermal Spring Water on my very sore arms and neck and instantly felt the benefit. After a few more spritzes the warmth and pain had all but vanished and I can now honestly say that this is something I will be using in the future for sunburn.

Now I know that the can only contains water, just H2O... but somehow it has the ability to completely calm down and sooth the awful burning feeling that comes with of sunburn! It's like magic and I am completely in love with the stuff! However it is fairly expensive for the amount you get really, but I will continue to buy it anyway!

I bought this little can from Boots for around £3 for 50ml

I am thinking about trying some of the other products in the range now.
Would you recommend any other Eau Thermale Products?

Body Butter

I don't know about you but I love body butter! The texture, the smell...everything really! I tend to buy the Body Shop ones as I have tried and tested them consequently I know what i'm letting myself in for!

However my birthday was in December and one of my friends gave me the Boots Body Butter Collection. The set contains five 50ml body butters.

They are:

  • Brazil Nut
  • Coconut
  • Cocoa butter
  • Mango
  • Honey
I am a huge fan of the nutty based ones such as coconut, especially in the summer month and have previously tried the treacle moon body butter which you can find the review of here.

Honey is never a scent that I would have previously have got myself, however it is actually my favourite from the set! I doesn't smell exactly like honey that you would put on toast, more like honey ice cream... I actually want to eat it (don't worry I won't).

The body butters are the same texture as the Body shop ones with the exception of the Honey which is not quite as thick, but not as thin as a cream.

Which Body Butters would you recommend?

Happy Pancake Day!

Its Pancake day... it's up there with Christmas as one of my favourite days of the year. I will be having lemon and sugar on my bad boys, I like to keep it traditional!

How delicious do they look?

I have thought about what I could give up for lent and have decided that I am not going to give up anything! I usually say chocolate or crisps and by the fourth day I have not only eaten a crisp but usually a massive sharing size bag of Walkers Sensations!

Are you giving up anything for lent?

Now because I love her and she is touring the UK I have decided to put my favourite Beyonce video on this post... why not?

25 Facts

I have decided to jump on the '25 Facts About Me' bandwagon, so here goes...

  1. I can't swim. No I really can't, I used to say that I was 'allergic' to chlorine so I didn't have to go to swimming lessons and when my friend tried to teach me I just looked like a drowning dog!
  2. My favourite colour is green.
  3. My favourite number is 7.
  4. I hate fish! The smell, the texture, the eyes, the black bits eugh... though I don't mind it very occasionally deep fried from the fish and chip shop.
  5. I passed my driving test on the second attempt, the first one went horribly wrong and resulted in me crying whilst driving around for a good ten minutes! The poor examiner must have been terrified mwhahaha serves him right for failing me!
  6. I once met Gary Barlow and Jason Donovan when they came for a cream tea together with their wives in the village teashop I used to work in. Jason was at one point making seal noises... very weird day!
  7. I bite my nails. Its disgusting but I do!
  8. I'm really quite shy and either don't say anything or don't stop talking when I meet people- I'm pretty sure lots of people have thought I was pretty rude ignoring them in the past but I literally don't know what to say... so I say nothing!
  9. My dream job would be to present Blue Peter or Countryfile.
  10. I have some Hunter wellies in purple to match my car.
  11. I'm studying Early Child Education and want to be a Reception class teacher.
  12. I have had a couple of grey hairs since I was 17! I dye my hair though so it's OK.
  13. I love Chicken.
  14. I want a teacup maltease puppy! I would call it Tilly if it was a girl or Truffle if it was a boy.
  15. I drink way too much tea. At least 8 cups a day and I get a headache if I don't.
  16. The first time I went to uni was in 2009 and I dropped out after 5 months. I hated it!
  17. I work in a Nursing Home and I really enjoy it. If the pay was better I would work in care forever but I don't want to live on minimum wage for the whole of my life.
  18. I can't listen to the song 'Bad day' by Daniel Powter. I always think it will bring me bad luck which is really silly but I always turn the radio over in a panic if it comes on!
  19. I love talcum powder. It smells so nice and love putting it on after a bath.
  20. I have never been on an plane or left the country.
  21. I never try clothes on in shops and I never take stuff back, therefore I often end up with clothes that don't fit/look awful!
  22. I wear flat dolly type shoes all year round even in the rain.
  23. I live near the sea but I hardly ever go to the beach- I drive past it everyday but don't go actually on it as much as I should.
  24. Cherry Garcia and Vermonster are my favourite Ice creams ever!
  25. I love going to the Cinema, more so than going out out!
There we go 25 Facts about me.

I can't wait to read more of everyone else's facts!
Fact 26: I'm nosy!

2013

Happy New year everyone! I hope you have all had a lovely last few weeks and are ready for the lovely new year!

A new year makes us evaluate the past one and the good and bad points, the highs and the lows.
So here are a few of mine:

  • Completed my NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care! - Now I know that this is equivalent of GCSEs but studying, being observed and doing this all whilst working full-time in a Nursing home is not easy!
  • Got accepted into uni and consequently started uni! Woohoo!
  • Found my new favourite lip product of all time- the YSL Lipstain in number 10!
  • Made some new friends on my uni course.
  • Had some good times with my best friends!
This year I plan to:

  • Complete my first year of uni.
  • Do the 100 day spending ban (on day one and it's going well... only 99 days left).
  • Go on a holiday or at least a different area of the UK- I have NEVER left the UK or been on a plane... actually I have never left England!
  • Eat a little healthier- I have a small problem with hitting up McDonalds after work! Bad habit that MUST stop!
I think that these are achievable targets for the year (apart from the spending ban)! So hopefully I won't be too disappointed in my evaluation of 2013!

What resolutions have you made?
